摘要: The day-to-day variability of the atmospheric circulation over Caribbean region is investigated in this work through extraction frequently occurring types. A two-stage cluster analysis technique using Ward’s agglomerative algorithm followed by k-means was applied to daily defined NCEP/DOE reanalysis wind components at 850 hPa level for period 1979–2010. Seven types (CTs) were extracted. are distinguished extension and location well-known quasi-stationary Atlantic Pacific anticyclones. However, three show a third anticyclonic feature, Gulf Mexico anticyclone which not observed on monthly scales because it transient with mean lifetime 2–3 days rarely occurs July–September period. Other notable characteristics include decrease annual frequency type anticyclone, neutral area Greater Antilles islands weaker than average easterly winds. In addition, second south-easterly winds throughout increases frequency. This latter also had events lasting as long 85 days. CTs that prevail during dry season correlated several based teleconnections. resulting comprise first catalogue, many come, may be useful statistical–dynamical downscaling applications explain surface weather variables such speeds.
