Power Up for Health: Pilot Study Outcomes of a Diabetes Prevention Program for Men from Disadvantaged Neighborhoods.

摘要: There is a significant evidence base for the Diabetes Prevention Program, lifestyle intervention to prevent onset of type 2 diabetes among high-risk individuals; however, translation this men has been challenging. This report presents outcomes pilot study an adapted 16-week prevention program entitled " Power Up Health." The goal was better engage color with prediabetes from disadvantaged neighborhoods New York City. It implemented at five different recreation centers located in predominantly low-income across curriculum facilitated by male coaches only; one group conducted Spanish. Primary outcome weight loss baseline 16 weeks. Other measures included activities, depressive symptoms, and self-reported health status. Men ( N = 47) were screened telephone. Of 29 eligible who began program, 25 attended least 4 sessions (52% non-Latino Black, 32% Latino, mean age 51.7 ± SD 9.9 years, body mass index 35 6.9 kg/m2). End n 23) varied site 3.8% (9.7 lbs); 3 5 sites had 5.6%, meeting national 5%-7%. 11.6 sessions. Improvement healthy eating exercise, status also seen. While recruitment challenging many lessons learned, men's shows promise success participants their coaches.
