Gendered Patterns of Experience in Social and Cultural Transition: The Case of English-Speaking Immigrants in Israel

It was based semistructured interviews with 12 English-speaking immigrants Israel. The data were analyzed using grounded theory (A. Strauss & J. Corbin, 1990, 1994) examine difficulties that felt when leaving and since being in Israel, their methods coping views what constitutes “successful immigration.” Two major patterns identified, each which rested different “need” appeared have been affected by process: (1) need feel competent (2) sense belonging. Although most interviewees talked both needs damaged or some extent, there strong tendency for women respondents place “belonging” foreground accounts men “competence” theirs.
