Stakeholders’ engagement in co-producing policy-relevant knowledge to facilitate employment for persons with developmental disabilities

摘要: Persons with developmental disabilities (PWDD) face a number of individual, environmental and societal barriers when seeking employment. Integrated knowledge translation (IKT) involves ongoing dynamic interactions between researchers stakeholders for the purpose engaging in mutually beneficial research to address these types multi-faceted barriers. There is gap IKT literature on effective stakeholder engagement strategies outside dissemination stage inform policy. In this paper, we report employed over 2-year period engage wide range different stages an project that aimed investigate ‘wicked’ problem employment PWDD. Our plan included multiple linked was designed ensure meaningful of, co-production with, stakeholders. We held two participatory consensus-building policy dialogue events co-produce utilising nominal group technique modified Delphi technique. A total 31 49 engaged first second events, respectively, from six key groups. Focused were build dialogues mobilisation focus attended only by PWDD, workshop policy/decision-makers, webinar human resources professionals employers, current affairs panel general public. findings suggest level each varies depending goal need project. highlight inherent challenges co-framing through who hold ideas interests. outreach needed foster relationships trust engagement. addition providing guidance how implement adaptable strategies, contribute discussions projects are planned funded. More studies explore mechanisms needed. evidence successful achieve also advancing discipline.
