Antibiotic use in Vietnamese hospitals: A multicenter point-prevalence study

摘要: Background Inappropriate antibiotic prescribing appears to be common worldwide and is contributing the selection of resistant organisms. This study examined prevalence prescription appropriateness indications for these prescriptions in 36 representative general hospitals across Vietnam. Methods A point-prevalence was performed between February December 2008. All inpatients on day survey were included analysis. Standard published guidelines used evaluate prescription. Results On study, 5,104 7,571 patients (67.4%) receiving therapy. The rate highest surgery wards (93.2%) lowest medical (48.2%). Of antibiotics, most commonly prescribed agents cephalosporins (70.2%), penicillins (21.6%), aminoglycosides (18.9%). Approximately one-third (1,573 5,104) had an inappropriate indication Risk factors independently associated with seen at national level, obstetrics gynecology departments, surgical wards. Conclusions Our data indicate a high use Vietnamese hospitals, also prescriptions. These findings suggest important areas intervention implementation stewardship policies hospitals.
