摘要: SYNOPSIS. Information relating to the ultrastructure of 4 organellar systems flagellates—nuclei (including mitosis), flagella, mitochondria and chloroplasts—is examined for bearing on probable phylogeny principal flagellate groups, first considered singly then in combination. The mitotic mechanism has not proved be as conservative a character might hoped, but still remains characteristic average condition many groups. Flagellar features are useful if allowance is made reduction or multiplication basic pair, loss lateral terminal hairs seems have occurred independently several times. presence paraxial rods within flagella may indication affinity. Rootlet dealt with detail here, although possible similarity between axial microtubular sheets axostylar flagellates some members green algae containing “manchettes” noted. patterns chloroplast internal structure summarized their general agreement other characters affirmed, noting however that cryptomonads closer euglenoids) than generally accepted. Attention drawn potential value mitochondrial morphology an indicator large assemblages. Finally, “tree” based multiple cell organizational presented discussed.
