Effects of deposition temperature on materials properties of magnetron sputtered titanium nitride coatings on mild steel substrates with Ni interlayer

摘要: Titanium nitride (TiN) coatings were prepared on mild steel (MS) substrates by the direct current reactive magnetron sputtering. With aim of improving adhesion TiN layer, an additional nickel interlayer was brush plated MS before coating formation. The phase has been identified with X-ray diffraction analysis and results show that prominent peaks observed in patterns correspond to (111), (200) (222) planes TiN. Cross-sectional SEM indicated presence columnar structure. mechanical properties such as modulus hardness these films characterised nanoindentation technique.
