摘要: Methimazole is a widely used and generally well-tolerated antithyroid agent. A 43-year-old woman had severe jaundice itching 1 month after receiving methimazole (10 mg tid) propranolol (20 for treatment of hyperthyroidism. The patient continued another 4 days the appearance until she finished both medications. When seen at emergency department 2 weeks later, still icterus, pruritus, hyperbilirubinemia, formed mainly conjugated fraction. Methimazole-induced cholestasis was diagnosed, therapy resumed. Over following 9 days, symptoms improved plasma bilirubin levels were normal 12 without methimazole. In rare cases within first few therapy, this drug can cause reversible cholestatic jaundice. Physicians patients should be aware adverse effect so that, upon occurrence, they discontinue avoid unnecessary invasive procedures.
