摘要: Abstract Focusing on a seacoast New Hampshire African American burying ground and the grave of white woman buried in Massachusetts rural cemetery, this article considers how essential nature cemetery makes it both very usual unusual memory place. Considering de Certeau's distinctions between space place as well Foucault's definition heterotopia, paper argues that paradoxes heterotopia combined with symbolism materiality make particularly potent lieu memoire for those otherwise forgotten public memory.
