摘要: Background Biofilm occurring on the surface of tunneled hemodialysis (HD) catheters is difficult to eradicate and often associated with recurrent bacteremia. We studied biofilm formation from patients without bacteremia identify location bacterial growth measure thickness. Study Design Prospective observational study. Setting & Participants 76 adult HD patients; 26 had removed for 50 reasons other than infection. Predictors Segment catheter, reason catheter removal. Outcomes Measurements Microbiological thickness outer luminal surfaces extravascular intravascular segments. Results Catheter cultures were positive in 16 (62%) 15 (30%) when was non–infection-related reasons. In cultures, segment most common site (15/16 [94%] 11/15 [73%] bacteremic nonbacteremic patients, respectively). Bacteremic significantly thicker all surfaces, compared both (14.53 ± 6.17 vs 11.97 5.01 μm; P Limitations Observational Conclusions The dialysis has thickest highest microbiological yield, This knowledge important designing preventive strategies also management
