摘要: Purpose The study assessed the prevalence and clinical histologic pattern of soft tissue lesions associated with extracted teeth determined validity diagnoses in comparison diagnosis. Patients Methods Soft from apices 100 by intra-alveolar approach follicle 50 transalveolar was examined histologically subsequent to subjects were seen within a 2-year period at Oral Surgery unit Nigerian teaching hospital. Association between age, gender, histopathologic diagnosis assessed, presumptive compared using epidemiologic parameters sensitivity, specificity, positive negative predictive values. Results There 76 (50.7%) males 74 (49.3%) females, age range 17 77 years (33 ± 14 years). Although indicated that all cases inflammatory origin, reported 84% be 10% normal tissue, 6% noninflammatory nature. included dentigerous cyst (4%), central giant cell granuloma (1.3%), ameloblastoma (0.7%). Gender not statistically type frequency pathology. Inflammatory conditions showed highest sensitivity (98%). Conclusions probability misdiagnosis pathologically significant is lowest inflammation cysts neoplasms. Thus, routine examination recoverable tissues would contribute improve management although cost related implications this need investigated further.
