摘要: The role of Kawasaki disease (KD) as a contributor to early childhood cardiac morbidity in Adelaide was investigated by review hospital admission and case-note data from January 1979 June 1990. There were 57 episodes 55 patients. epidemiological this South Australian series are similar that seen other New Zealand centres correlate better with the clinical North America than Japan. average age 3.2 years (median 2.7 years) 38 85% cases being less 2 5 respectively. male female ratio 1.5. incidence KD 0-5 year group 3.9 per 100,000 children. This represents minimum number for period illustrates an association aneurysm-risk prolonged fever; improved defervescence combination intravenous gamma-globulin (IVGG) aspirin compared alone; more severe process very young. supports efficacy single dose IVGG therapy. Antibiotics given prior diagnosis 79% patients, often causing diagnostic confusion possible drug reactions. pathogenic mechanisms reviewed new hypothesis is proposed incorporate vessel pathology resulting release endothelin recognized mediators endothelial damage including tumour necrosis factor-alpha interleukin-1 beta.
