摘要: A glycan-related IgE-reactivity has been demonstrated in most allergen sources, especially plant kingdom. Recent progress glycobiology allowed a clearer classification of these glyco-epitopes. Unlike classical peptide chain-based epitopes, glyco-epitopes can share significant structural homologies beyond the limits protein families. These glycoepitopes are thus prone to extensive cross-reactivity. They have called Cross-reactive Carbohydrate Determinants or CCD. Many behave as "panepitopes", leading cross-reactivity between products distant pollens and hymenoptera venoms. But CCD not universally cross-reactive they rather cluster into subgroups such fungal Because monovalent IgE-binding is sufficient serum-based assays, classically considered potential source positive vitro results without clinical significance. some authors recently that could induce response at cell level suggested might play role vivo. As long assays include glycan- CCD-related IgE responses, laboratory should be carefully interpreted light existing knowledge about glycomes natural products. patient's serum also tested towards glycoprotein model bromelain.
