摘要: Abstract The electronic response of a semi-infinite medium to swift point charge moving parallel its surface has been analysed theoretically. aim provide estimates stopping power, straggling and lateral deflection ions under grazing incidence on insulating and/or conducting targets. As byproduct, similar are obtained for thin planar layer which may be helpful in the analysis channeling at surfaces bulk. theoretical scheme is based classical quantal theory impact parameter representation. Symmetry properties have established relating behavior above plane underneath. Well-established results from dispersion long-wavelength limit reproduced. Those do not apply close collisions become invalid near surface. Corrections applied ensuring corect transition bulk behavior. effect excited core electrons frequently neglected shown significant.
