摘要: Abstract There is an opportunity to reduce the amount of sheet metal currently used manufacture automotive components, despite available cost and CO2 savings, industry has not realised full potential these saving opportunities. To understand why, a practical case study was set up with manufacturer. A cross-functional team established scope make changes five components using structured design process improve material efficiency. The trial identified realistic opportunities utilisation by 20%pts, save £9million 5 kilotonnes annually. greatest were found early in product development cycle, before production method determined component geometry. Of these, 3%pts actually implemented on vehicle, £1.8million 1.5 significant barriers implementing efficiency strategies industrial setting. overcome should be considered high vehicle platform hierarchy. As result this investigation, new business processes are being generated support for at This approach increase implementation other aspects demand reduction.
