摘要: The treatment of epilepsy with carbamazepine (CBZ) may be hampered by cognitive side effects. These effects are thought to related pharmacokinetic properties the drug. serum concentration CBZ is characterized rapid absorption and a short half-life, which lead considerable fluctuation level between doses. Cognitive defects result from peak levels: periods high concentration. In single-blind crossover design, performance was compared in three conditions. All patients were first tested steady state conventional CBZ. then assigned randomly either CBZ-controlled release (CR) or condition administered same tablet form dose frequency as CR. Psychological tests four times daily, immediately after samples taken. A nonmedication control group following test scheme obtain standards for evaluation changes during day. systematic tendency found toward higher CR condition. This especially evident memory accuracy visual information processing. results repeated procedure show that smoothing effect on fluctuations more stable pattern functioning
