摘要: Modulating retro-reflectors provide means for free space optical communication without the need a laser, telescope or pointer tracker on one end of link. These systems work by coupling retro-reflector with an electro- optic shutter. The modulating is then interrogated cw laser beam from conventional communications system and returns modulated signal to interrogator. Over last few years Naval Research Laboratory has developed based corner cubes large area Transmissive InGaAs multiple quantum well modulators. devices can allow links at speeds up about 10 Mbps. We will discuss critical performance characteristics such including rate, power consumption, contrast ratio operating wavelength. In addition new architecture upon cat s eye retroreflectors be discussed. This possibility data rates hundreds megabits per second consumptions below 100 mW.
