摘要: Abstract K-1 Escherichia coli are far more frequent in neonatal sepsis (36% of E. sepsis) and meningitis (80% meningitis) than would be expected by the frequency K-1 colonization neonates (11 to 25%). There is no apparent parallel cases adults. To study further this age-related difference virulence, clinical isolates were tested for their sensitivity sera. Strains isolated from sensitive serum bactericidal activity those or adult (P < 0.01). Serum did not appear determined K O antigens. Four obtained cerebrospinal fluid killed chelated with 0.05 M Mg2+ ethyleneglycol-bis (β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N-tetraacetic acid (EGTA), suggesting that alternative pathway was activated. Although untreated sera these strains as well did, EGTA-treated less effective This suggests function activated The defect partially corrected addition either A B hyperimmune equine meningococcal antiserum.
