摘要: [1] We review recent theoretical progress in understanding the origins of jovian “main auroral oval” emissions, based on hypothesis that they are connected with magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling current circuit which maintains plasma corotation middle magnetosphere. After development basic theory, we compare results obtained differing models background magnetic field, showing an appropriate choice is crucial determining strength, width, and location precipitating electron energy flux associated region upward field-aligned current. Specific comparison made between for a dipole field empirically sheet model, angular velocity profile calculated self-consistently using Hill-Pontius theory. We also develop simple approximation regimes to small large equatorial distances, currents depend mass outflow rate iogenic not effective ionospheric Pedersen conductivity small-distance regime, vice versa at distances. discuss expected anticorrelation emission intensity solar wind dynamic pressure present steady state representing degrees magnetospheric compression. Significant modulation anticipated this basis.
