摘要: Abstract Study of focal mechanisms earthquakes in the Near and Komandorsky Islands indicate that there are several distinct zones tectonic activity. South Islands, normal faulting occurs trench east 172°E low-angle thrusting dominates Aleutian ridge. Mechanisms underthrusting as far west Mednyy Island with strike-slip restricted to south Beringa Island. A zone northeast striking left-lateral near 1645.°E is proposed separate Ridge from Kamchatka Peninsula. This motion, well north may be related existance a buffer plate comprising Islands. Active subduction terminates 173°E may, part, due bouyancy remnant slab. Depth phase modelling indicates bulletin-reported depths overestimated misidentification depth phases.
