摘要: Background Left atrial enlargement (LAE) is associated with an increased risk of death and cardiovascular (CV) hospitalization. Whether or not LAE reflects early structural change from hypertension unclear. Hypothesis The aim this study was to evaluate the relationship between LA size, 24-h blood pressure measurements, age, body mass index (BMI), left ventricular (LVMI) in hypertensive patients. Methods We studied 164 outpatients (age range 30-76 years, 73 men 91 women) mild moderate hypertension. Physical examination, electrocardiogram, noninvasive monitoring (ABPM), Doppler echocardiogram were performed. dimensions calculated. sample divided by age ( = 60 years). Results hypertrophy (LVH) present 45% patients aged years (p 0.002). (> 4 cm) 35% elderly 24% young 0.31), 36% 21% without LVH 0.0057). There no significant difference younger LVH. incidence obesity low (31%) whole sample. percentage overweight higher size equally low. Multivariate analysis showed 0.044) LVMI 0.002) as only predictors enlargement. Conclusion Since a high CV hospitalization, we emphasize importance development use drugs that inhibit
