摘要: Background Lower limb peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects 20% of population over 65 years. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has recently emerged as a novel, safe, and effective treatment option. This review aims to assess the mechanism action by which ESWT improves symptoms in patients with PAD. Methods MEDLINE EMBASE databases were searched line Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses guidelines. Any article investigating PAD was considered inclusion. Results The systematic current literature yielded 8 relevant articles reporting studies on animal models hind ischemia or These described effects angiogenesis, arteriogenesis, vasculogenesis, endothelial nitric oxide synthase, lower micro/macrocirculation, atherosclerosis. Conclusion increases expression angiogenic, arteriogenic, vasculogenic factors, reduces vessel wall stenosis, perfusion. However, most evidence is based studies. Future research should focus elucidating patients.
