摘要: Background Cigarette smoking can lead to systemic endothelial dysfunction. Since the airway circulation is exposed a high concentration of cigarette smoke constituents, we reasoned that vascular dysfunction could be present in healthy smokers without Objectives The purpose this study was compare and function measure markers inflammation lung-healthy current smokers. has been related inflammation, also investigated its response an inhaled glucocorticosteroid (ICS). Methods Fifteen healthy, 17 lifetime nonsmokers were enrolled. Smokers randomly assigned 3-week treatments with fluticasone propionate or placebo crossover design. Vascular assessed by blood-flow albuterol (ΔQaw) extrapulmonary brachial arterial flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD). Venous blood collected for C-reactive protein IL-6. Results Baseline parameters did not differ between groups except ΔQaw, which greater (45% ± 12%) than (1% ( P = .001). In smokers, ICS treatment increased Qaw 41% 7% Conclusions Healthy no signs display impaired function, possibly preceding Airway restored ICS, directly severity
