摘要: Abstract Purpose: To describe a morphological scoring system of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) that is not based on visual acuity testing. Setting: Department Ophthalmology, University Heidelberg, Germany. Methods: Following dilation the pupil, standardized photographs pseudophakic anterior segments were obtained using photo slitlamp. Posterior was scored by evaluating retroillumination photographs. The individual PCO score calculated multiplying density (graded from 0 to 4) fraction area involved behind intraocular lens (IOL) optic. evaluate reliability system, six observers examined five eyes each (Experiment A, interindividual reliability). same observer in three different days B, intraindividual Results: Morphological scores very reliable. With 4, showed standard deviations between 0.08 and 0.25. 0.06 0.19 mean scores. Standard deviation 0.12 when eye scored. Conclusion: evaluates entire IOL optic thus includes larger than does method revealed high insignificant investigatordependent variations. When photographic setup, systematic errors technique relevant. This may be an important tool accurately test for differences formation with various styles surgical methods.
