摘要: Summary. Travel times are observed at a network of seismometers from number earthquakes. The seismic velocity the medium through which waves pass is allowed to vary in all three dimensions and represented terms finite (P) parameters. travel-time data inverted for parameters hypocentre coordinates A linearized least squares inversion technique used both stochastic generalized inverses considered. method computationally efficient requires (or decomposition) only P x 4 matrices. applied dataset travel reported I.S.C. 56 earthquakes recorded stations on North Island New Zealand. structure characterized by five parameters, so that S 5 matrices need be inverted. gives 30 per cent reduction residuals. resulting model substantially different obtained when hypocentres kept fmed for. parallel study synthetic insight into interpretation results. In particular, depth origin time some earthquakes, together with two very poorly determined.
