摘要: Although the social organization and behaviour of pinnipeds has received considerable attention, focus much this work been on adults (e.g. Bartholomew, 1970; Stirling, 1975a, 1983; Le Boeuf, 1978; Jouventin Cornet, 1980; Gentry Kooyman, 1986). Generally, problems faced by pup behavioural adaptations which have evolved to cope with them are given cursory treatment if mentioned at all. In chapter, I review what is known about early development seals objective gaining an insight into factors shaped their life history patterns point out current deficiencies in our understanding pinniped neonatal behaviour. Because gaps information many critical points, conclusions drawn chapter must be considered tentative. Wherever possible, tried identify unanswered questions hope stimulating research these areas.
