摘要: Acoustic communication is important in the social life of pinnipeds, but our knowledge it limited. Physical analyses sound signals are unavailable for some species, and scant others (Watkins Wartzok, 1985; Table 1). Most existing cover only a small portion each species’ repertoire, not very detailed, provide little information about acoustic variability. Admittedly, difficult to study behavior most phocid yet virtually undescribed even well studied species that breed on land. Only few sonagrams available gray seal (Halichoerus grypus), example, single call type southern elephant (Mirounga leonina) has been analyzed spectrographically.
