摘要: Abstract Detiding of ADCP observations on Georges Bank is addressed using 3D circulation models and an iterative inversion strategy. The forward model a nonlinear, time-domain finite element with advanced turbulence closure. inverse its linearized frequency domain counterpart. focused the deduction boundary conditions for limited-area model. Two different strategies are described tested. Robust smoothing parameters selected based variance condition estimates. Test cases model-generated output as “data” show possibility near-perfect given realistic sampling bank; portions which poorly constrained by sampling; various sources imperfection. mismatched physics between shown to be diminished iteration such that nonlinear constructed. Inversion real data – 12-day cruise in April 1995 demonstrated. Prior error generated climatology-based solutions 15 cm/s RMS.The reduces this 8 cm/s, close minimum achievable tidal analysis moored time series. hindcast shows important departures from climatology, including meander Northern Flank jet; northward, off-bank transport Central Northeast Peak; on-bank intrusion along Southern Flank.
