摘要: This paper presents a rigorous, yet practical, method of multigrid data assimilation into regional structured-grid tidal models. The new inverse nesting scheme, with across multiple grids, is designed to provide fit the dynamics in areas highly complex bathymetry and coastline geometry. In these areas, computational constraints make it impractical fully resolve local topographic coastal features around all observation sites stand-alone computation. proposed strategy consists increasing model resolution limited area domains locations where representativeness error detected order improve representation measurements respect dynamics. Multiple high-resolution nested are set up carried out using embedded computations. Every domain coupled outer through open boundary conditions (OBCs). Data inversion control space model. A level generality retained throughout presentation choice space; however, specific example OBCs as provided, other sensible choices discussed. forward computations do not affect solution domain. subsequent utilize observation-minus-model residuals obtain optimal values parameters by propagating uncertainty from fields at efficient low-rank covariance representations. Subsequently, an analysis increment computed system steered optimally towards observations while preserving perfect dynamical balance. illustrated real-world application context Philippines Strait Dynamics experiment.
