摘要: Background: Although medication safety research has tended to focus on inpatients, the of drug use among outpatients is also a concern. Objective: We estimate frequency potentially interacting concomitant dispensing outpatients. Research Design: report number and percent patients annually dispensed an object interest (ie, warfarin, digoxin, cyclosporine, or lovastatin/simvastatin) with random sample insured adults receiving care from 10 integrated delivery systems. 2 definitions dispensing: medications dispensed: 1) during time period for which patient had other available (‘days supply') 2) same day. U.S. population codispensed these pairs. Results: Among interest, between 17.8% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 17.1–18.6%) 28.0% CI 24.0–32.1%) were concomitantly using “days supply” definition, 7.1% 6.6–7.7%) 17.7% 14.4–21.1%) “same day” definition. Extrapolating population, 1.29 1.25–1.33; day) 2.67 2.62–2.72; days supply) million are 1 4 Conclusions: found evidence An opportunity exists better understand how such translates into adverse events ultimately improved safety.
