Prevalence of obesity and associated co-morbid conditions in a population-based sample of primarily urban Mexican Americans.

摘要: Objective: To estimate the prevalence and risk factors of obesity in a sample primarily urban Mexican Americans (the fastest growing segment US population), to examine association between co-morbid conditions. Methods: Subjects were participants from cross-sectional, population-based study. Data collected on 6038 noninstitutionalized self-identified Latinos American ancestry age $40 years six census tracts Los Angeles County, California. Obesity was defined having body mass index $30.0 kg/m2. Results: The overall 50% (females 54% vs males 43%, P,.0001). Stepwise logistic regression analyses revealed that positively associated with being former smoker (OR 1.5, P5.0009), unemployed P,.0001), female sex 1.3, P5.02). negatively single or divorced .8, P5.014), current .6, $70 .4, After adjusting for age, significantly following systemic comorbidities: hypertension, heart failure, arthritis, diabetes, angina, back pain, asthma (P,.01). Conclusion: Because high its co- morbidities, an evaluation intervention programs is needed determine most effective approach help decrease co-morbidities this population.
