Obstacles to obtaining Informed Consent from the Perspective of Transplant Coordinators: A Qualitative Study

摘要: Background: The lack of consent to donate body organs leads an increase in the death rate patients on waiting list for transplantation. Unwillingness families is known as main obstacle organ donation, and media has essential role motivating donation. Objectives: This study aimed explore obstacles obtaining donation from transplant coordinators’ perspective throughout Iran. Methods: In this qualitative study, 13 in-depth semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted with coordinators November 2018 March 2019. participants investigated using a purposive sampling method. participants’ age work experience ranged between 32 - 49 years 6 25 years, respectively. Open-ended questions asked private room. An experienced interviewer explained study’s objectives coordinators, each interview lasted average 50 minutes. scripts analyzed content analysis Results: findings highlighted difficulty brain-dead patients’ families. could be internal or external. External determinants healthcare providers’ empathy, inadequate consultation doctors outside hospital, content, uninformed comments relatives. Internal hoping recovery, denial, disagreement among family members. Conclusions: team should have better connection obtain them. Therefore, training program must developed treatment so that they show more supportive behavior improve quality care hospitals before after brain death.
