摘要: Two key features of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) statistical multiplexing and continuous bit rate are analyzed. Both claimed to provide the economic edge for ATM over other transmission switching paradigms. It is argued that they have little chance succeed in a high-speed environment, even if can be implemented, their benefits hardly worth complexity add network. The trade-off cell-granularity efficiency, terms bandwidth allocation, utilization, billing, versus acceptable implementation discussed from point view traffic management. A quantified-bandwidth channel peak subscription suggested as new goals ATM. >
