摘要: Background: The current study was undertaken to assess the cytotoxicity of leaves Libyan Juniperus phoenicea (Cupressaceae) against human cancer cell lines. Methods: cytotoxicity of n-hexane, dichloromethane (DCM) and methanol (MeOH) extracts J. (JP), obtained from sequential Soxhlet extractions, was assessed four lines: EJ138 (human bladder carcinoma), HepG2 liver hepatocellular carcinoma), A549 lung carcinoma) and MCF7 breast adenocarcinoma) using MTT assay. Results: line was most sensitive JP extracts, with highest level IC50 values of 16, 13 100 µg/mL for DCM, n-hexane and MeOH respectively. However, generally potent cytotoxic extract across other cells tested n-hexane extract, followed by DCM extract, whilst showed little or no cytotoxicity. percentage of viability cells decreased as concentration test compounds increased. The various chromatographic fractions also studied A459 cells. For n-hexane fractions, the IC50 values were 160, 62, 90, 30, 9.5 40 1 to 5 7, Fractions 4 greatest effect. DCM fractions 2, 3 had 60, 92 19 µg/mL, respectively, 8 non-cytotoxic. 1 2 of the non-cytotoxic, whereas observed for fractions 50 85 µg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: outcome present study suggested that JP leaves possess activities. high extracts suggested lipophilicity might affect JP, where less polar strongest
