摘要: Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees provide opportunities for economic mobility. Yet women, underrepresented minority (URM), first-generation college students remain disproportionately in STEM fields. This study examined the effectiveness of a living-learning community (LLC) URM first-year women interested STEM. The authors utilized matched sample post-hoc analysis to examine undergraduate graduate degree attainment science related fields who participated Women Science Residence Program (WISERP) LLC compared controls. control group was on twelve characteristics that are associated with retention First-generation were significantly more likely receive an science; field, nearly three times as master’s than their results indicate one-year intervention can meaningfully impact persistence at-risk populations attaining bachelor’s enrolling programs invite further investigation into factors contributing beneficial LLCs.
