摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the low- and high-molecular forms of nerve growth factor (NGF). It describes remarkable similarity in amino acid sequence primary NGF subunit those human proinsulin guinea pig insulin. hypothesis, though necessary speculative, presents some attractive features. A comparison biological effects produced by NGF, insulin their respective target cells, sources origin, indicates that, even if they share a distant common precursor, have then engaged along different routes, differ to marked extent from each other. Both call forth pleiotypic response cells. Similar are however also other hormones, including stereoids tyroxine, as well growth-promoting substances such EGF, erythropoietin phytohaemoagglutinin. The finding suggests that mechanism underlies promoting properties number seemingly unrelated effectors therefore does not provide evidence for between otherwise vastly agents.
