摘要: Previous efforts to explore the compressive strength of ceramics as a function confining pressure at high strain rates have been limited by maximum hydrostatic that could be achieved within experimental apparatus. An alternate procedure, using an autofrettaged confinement ring, has designed achieve higher pressures. A 6.2 GPa stress pulse, approximately 20 μs duration, was used load 99.5% pure cylindrical aluminium oxide specimen under 650 MPa. The remained intact and showed no evidence fracture scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Transmission (TEM), however, extensive plastic flow; microcracks were observed associated with dislocation arrays. Static dynamic yield strengths rate are compared.
