摘要: Abstract An antiserum raised against the lipopolysaccharides (LPS) of an encapsulated Vibrio cholerae O139 strain was shown to induce passive protection challenge with O139, but not O1, organisms. Subsequent experiments, however, revealed that purified LPS, obtained by conventional phenol–water extraction method, contained capsular polysaccharide (CPS) material. Therefore, another immunization electrophoresed gel-cut material containing only truncated (short) form `O' polysaccharides (TFOP) linked core LPS. Anti-TFOP antibodies and their Fab (IgG) fragments induced colonial variants strains such mediated inhibition intestinal colonization. These results suggest it is possible engender using TFOP (devoid CPS) as immunogen.
