Awareness, Knowledge, Perception and Attitude towards Prescription Medicines Abuse among Medicines Prescribers and Dispensers in Nnewi Nigeria

摘要: Background: Abuse of medicines is becoming a serious problem in many parts the world, with negative consequences ranging from addiction, psychosis, cardiovascular complications, and premature deaths unintentional overdose. Objectives: The objective this study to assess awareness, knowledge, perception attitudes toward abuse prescription (PM) among prescribers dispensers Nigeria. Design Participants: A descriptive cross-sectional was carried out pharmacists, other pharmacy staff retail pharmacies, licensed patent vendors (chemical sellers), medical doctors Nnewi, Data were collected through self-completed questionnaire supervised by trained research assistants, between December 2013 April 2014. Three hundred seventy-five participants recruited for study. Analysis: Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17 windows used data analysis. Bivariate multivariate analyses evaluate differences associations based on selected variables. Results: high 294 (78.4%) respondents that PM community. Knowledge health problems associated also at 226 (60.3%). However attitude towards early detection their patients/clients discouraging. Education, educational status, work status gender significantly predict good knowledge positive about abuse. Conclusion: Findings will assist authorities formulate appropriate promotion interventions control prevent medicines. Actions directed intervention, capacity building, education, public initiatives law enforcements hopefully curb menace
