Comparison of single- and two-stage UASB reactors used for anaerobic treatment of synthetic fruit wastewater

摘要: Abstract The influence of the hydraulic retention time on microbial activity has been investigated, using a single methanization stage and cascade two upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors. latter process scheme was clearly superior treating synthetic fruit canning wastewater. For COD reduction 90%, around 9–10 h required in single-stage UASB, while 4–5 h were sufficient two-stage mode operation. In this case, total volume reduced by 50% compared to one.
