摘要: Abstract. The main ionospheric trough is a large-scale spatial depletion in the electron density distribution at the interface between high- and mid-latitude ionosphere. In western Europe it appears early evening, progresses equatorward during night, and retreats rapidly poleward at dawn. It exhibits substantial day-to-day variability under conditions of increased geomagnetic activity moves progressively to lower latitudes. Steep gradients on trough-walls either side of minimum, and their variability, can cause problems for radio applications. Numerous studies have sought characterize quantify behaviour. Electron Density Assimilative Model (EDAM) models ionosphere a global scale. assimilates observations into background ionosphere, the International Reference Ionosphere 2007 (IRI2007), provide full 3-D representation plasma specified times and days. This current investigation studied capability EDAM model the ionosphere region trough. Total electron content (TEC) measurements from 46 GPS stations September to December 2002 were assimilated ionosphere in region. Vertical profiles through model revealed detail its structure. Statistical results are presented latitude minimum, TEC minimum of other defined parameters that results are compared with previous made Navy Ionospheric Monitoring System (NIMS), reveal potential the large-scale structure Keywords.
