摘要: Droughts, which can strongly affect both hydrologic and biogeochemical systems, are projected to become more prevalent in the tropics future. We assessed effects of an extreme drought during 2015 on stream water composition Luquillo Mountains Puerto Rico. demonstrated that base flow months leading up study was sourced from trade-wind orographic rainfall, suggesting a resistance otherwise drought. In two catchments (Mameyes Icacos), we sampled series four rewetting events partially alleviated collected analyzed dissolved constituents (major cations anions, organic carbon, nitrogen) suspended sediment (inorganic matter (particulate carbon particulate nitrogen)). The rivers appeared be resistant drought, recovering quickly upon rewetting, as (1) concentration-discharge (C-Q) relationships deviated little long-term patterns; (2) “new water” dominated streamflow latter events; (3) sources had accumulated channel flushed out initial (4) severity measured by US monitor, reduced dramatically after events. Through this interdisciplinary study, were able investigate impact through river biogeochemistry.
