摘要: We report the results of an interdisciplinary collaboration formed to assess sterilizing capabilities One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma (OAUGDP). This newly-invented source glow discharge plasma (the fourth state matter) is capable operating at atmospheric pressure in air and other gases, providing antimicrobial active species surfaces workpieces room temperature as judged by viable plate counts. OAUGDP exposures have reduced log numbers bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus Escherichia coli, endospores from Bacillus stearothermophilus subtilis on seeded solid surfaces, fabrics, filter paper, powdered culture media temperature. Initial experimental data showed a two-log10 CFU reduction bacteria when 2 × 102 cells were paper. Results ≥3 log10 polypropylene samples with E. coli (5 × 104) exposed, while 30 s exposure time was required for similar killing S. aureus-seeded samples. The times effect ≥6 no longer than 30 s. Experiments sealed commercial sterilization bags little or differences compared unwrapped less 5 min generated ≥5 commercially prepared spores (1 × 106); 7 min generate spores. For all microorganisms tested, biphasic curve number survivors vs plotted dose-response cures. Several proposed mechanisms are discussed.
