摘要: Abstract This study aimed at assessing trace element concentrations in two representative estuaries of Ghana (Pra and Ankobra) affected by gold-mining, relative to the levels unaffected Volta estuary. Surficial sediments (n = 16–17) were sampled each estuary analysed ICP-MS for 25 elements after pseudo-total digestion. The enrichment geoaccumulation indexes revealed a moderate significant contamination As, Ag Cu Pra Ankobra estuaries. Spatial maps non-localized sources. High As attributable runoff transport sedimentation gold mining-tailing particles, as suggested results from granulometric distributions, correlation PCA analysis. probabilities surpassing probable effects level (PEL) 77% 50% Cr 27% Ni Ankobra; these values 13%, 23% 10% Pra. Results reveal potential future implications on ecosystems human health both result gold-mining activity.
