摘要: Treatment of Northern fowl mite (Ornithonyssus sylviarum) infestation on poultry in research facilities can be challenging. The has a rapid reproductive cycle (egg to adult 5 7 d), and chemical treatments toxic birds, personnel, the environment. In addition, antimite treatment may interfere with experimental designs. current study evaluated efficacy topical application an entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana, naturally occurring mites pen-housed roosters (n = 14; age, 18 mo). Two groups each were used 2 experiments: (30 mL, 2.9 × 1010 spores per bird) compared water control), common organophosphate agent tetrachlorvinphos–dichlorvos mL). We also assessed higher dose (300 1011 birds that not exposed tetrachlorvinphos–dichlorvos. reduced levels relative control group but did outperform when at equal volume frequency. Increasing frequency improved outcomes such visual inspection failed detect any mites. results presented here suggest that, applied sufficient doses, effectively reduces important part integrated pest management program. Additional is needed document most effective dose, frequency, location B. bassiana poultry.
