The role of marital quality and spousal support in behaviour problems of children with and without intellectual disability

摘要: Background  Children with intellectual disability (ID) have been found to be at an increased risk for developing behavioural problems. The purpose of this study was examine the relationship between marital domain, including quality and spousal support, behaviour problems in children without ID. Methods  domain child examined 132 families 6-year-olds ID. Using hierarchical regression, these relationships were also studied over time from ages 6–8 years. Child assessed mother-reported Behavior Checklist. measured using Dyadic Adjustment Scale-7 Spousal Support Agreement Scale. Mother-reported parenting stress observed practices tested as potential mediators problems. Results  Mean levels not significantly different typically (TD) ID groups, but there greater variance reported group 6, 7 8. score age 6 years predicted 8 TD only. This predictive appeared a unidirectional effect, predict Parenting partially mediated group. Conclusions  may impact on outcomes children. Implications future research interventions are discussed.
