摘要: Summary. Hyptis suaveolens leaf has been used in conventional therapies for various disease conditions, including diarrhea. However, some of the therapeutic potentials plant have not scientifically evaluated. Hence, present study was aimed to evaluate antidiarrhoeal activity ethanol extract against an experimental model castor oil-induced diarrhea mice. Phytochemical screening extracts their active constituents also performed following standard procedures. Oral administration said (250 and 500 mg/kg) showed significant (P<0.01) dose-dependent inhibitory oil induced diarrhoea. The onset diarrhoea by significantly delayed extract. results were comparable those antimotility drug, loperamide (50 mg/kg). Preliminary phytochemical shows presence alkaloid, glycoside, saponin, tannin flavonoid as major constituents. indicate principles possessing anti-diarrhoeal effect justify its traditional use treatment Industrial relevance. Diarrheal diseases pose a leading cause morbidity mortality worldwide.  Moreover, developing countries, cost modern synthetic medicines is out reach common man, especially rural areas. A large population Indian subcontinent depend on system medicine physical psychological health needs. Hence there intensive search natural products which are biologically In this study, H S. studied revealed that reduced induction time and  number diarrhoeal episodes orally treated establish efficacy agents. Isolation characterization principle(s) from could lead development herbal drug more effective with less side effect, costly affordable compared drugs.
