Retirement and the income of older people: a British perspective

摘要: Little is known about the income dynamics of retirement in Britain, part because a lack data. The information some topical interest given growing number older people, trend towards earlier retirement, decline value basic state pension, reliance on occupational and private pensions, continuing relatively high poverty rates among people old age. This paper considers important question and, particular, association between transitions into probability becoming poor. It based longitudinal data from British Household Panel Survey waves 1–9, covering 1991–1999. We also relate differences entry probabilities retired to factors such as retiree's health, housing tenure, age sex, education, labour market status history, household composition spouse's characteristics.
