摘要: The effect of retirement on economic welfare, indirectly measured by income, has not been studied widely, namely due to the lack longitudinal data. A large literature exists about poverty in old age, mainly based cross sectional survey data, but usually those studies are able study transitional income as they do observe workers who retire before and after their retirement. knowledge this phenomenon is, however, crucial relevance given growing number elderly people, trend towards earlier retirement, continuing relatively high rates among elderly. This paper analyses association between transitions into probability becoming poor, considering different definitions low following what proposed literature. It is data from European Community Household Panel (ECHP) for Portugal waves 1-8 covering 1994-2001.
