Polymer chain collapse induced by many-body dipole correlations

摘要: We present a simple analytical theory of flexible polymer chain dissolved in good solvent, carrying permanent freely oriented dipoles on the monomers. take into account dipole correlations within random phase approximation (RPA), as well dielectric heterogeneity internal volume relative to bulk solution. demonstrate that monomers can be taken pairwise ones only when is coil conformation. In this case manifest themselves through Keesom interactions dipoles. On other hand, effect (dielectric mismatch effect) leads effective interaction between polymeric coil. Both these effects by renormalizing second virial coefficient monomer-monomer interactions. establish solvent permittivity exceeds material, competes with attractive interactions, leading expansion. opposite case, both and lead collapse. analyse coil-globule transition caused many-body theory. accounting for higher than smooths pure electrostatics driven chain.
